A person of integrity behaves in an ethical manner.
Honest students only use authorized documentation during an exam, and they properly cite their sources in an assignment, for example. They avoid passing off another person’s efforts and ideas as their own. Thus, they adopt attitudes expected from the best managers.
In an academic context, unethical behavior can take various forms, including plagiarism, cheating, and fraud. They are considered violations.

Important! The Regulation regarding the intellectual integrity of students at HEC Montréal imposes sanctions based on the severity of the academic violations. These sanctions range from a simple warning to permanent expulsion. They are systematically inserted in the student’s file.

HEC Montréal takes violations of intellectual integrity very seriously. It has a regulation that describes prohibited behavior, disciplinary procedures and sanctions applicable for violations.

HEC Montréal uses a similarity detection software to ensure fairness towards honest students, and also to improve the methodological quality in academics. This tool helps identify cases of plagiarism and facilitates the decision-making process of teachers in such situations.
The software is integrated into the ZoneCours Work Submission tool. It compares the document submitted to it with information found on the Internet and also with papers presented in previous years.
The software does not make decisions in the place of the teachers. It points out the similarities that are detected and enables the latter to decide which ones might constitute plagiarism.
When the teacher suspects a case of plagiarism, he or she must notify the program office handling the case, in accordance with the Regulation regarding the intellectual integrity of students.
Intellectual integrity is a matter of ethics. It is a skill that requires the acquisition of many skills: learning to cite sources, manage time, and study effectively; improving writing skills, for example.
Acquiring these skills will contribute to your academic success and help develop your managerial skills.
